Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

Wenvoe, Wales. One of 2 pubs in the village of Wenvoe. The site and name dates back to the Iron Age when Walston Castle was set up on a hill fort. Reference is made to it in the Doomsday Book as belonging to Gunni the Dane. It is not a particularly old pub and is part of Whitbread's Beefeater chain. But it gives me a chance to talk about the tasty beer I had, Doom Bar Amber Ale. It is the UK's top selling ale and is brewed by Sharp's brewery located on the north coast of Cornwall. At the mouth of the River Camel estuary there is a treacherous sand bar that many ships have run aground on over the years. Legend tells of the Mermaid of Padstow who fell in love with a man that she tried to lure beneath the waves. As he escaped by shooting her, the mermaid's last action was to curse the harbour with a "bar of doom" from Hawkers Cove to Trebetherick Bay.
