Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

Tynemouth, Dating from 1851, it became a public house in 1869 and is located on Front Street close to the Tynemouth Castle and Priory. The name refers to a sailor's knot that resembles the turban worn by the Tartars in Turkey going back to the Crusades. The pub is famous for Wandering Willie, a Northumbrian Collie sheepdog who became separated from his owner in 1873. Willie spent years wandering back to the ferry looking for his owner, eventually being taken in by locals. When he died in 1880 he was stuffed by a local brewery and now resides in a glass case at the Turks Head (the locals call the pub The Stuffed Dog). The pub consists of a main bar with a large room in front and a quieter back room. It a busy place during football games (it was packed for an Arsenal vs. Newcastle game the day I was there). Thanks to Joe the bartender for putting on the F1 race on one of the TVs for me before the game started (it was the only pub on Front Street that would do it!) Happy to find Bass Ale on tap here.
