Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

Fitzrovia, London. The current building dates from the early 19th century, but there has been a pub on this site since 1738. The pub was popular with London's bohemian set in the 1930s. One story is that George Orwell threw up over the bar. In the spring of 1936 Dylan Thomas met young chorus girl Caitlin Macnamara (she was artist Augustus John's lover at the time) here and proposed to her. Other notable "Wheatsheaf Writers" included Edwin Muir and Humphrey Jennings. The pub has a distinctive mock-Tudor frontage. The interior retains many traditional features including lots of stained glass. On the ground floor there is seating around the small bar and a room in the rear. Upstairs is the Orwell Room, served by an even smaller bar. A Nicholson's pub, their pale ale was my beer of choice to enjoy in this lovely pub.
