Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

Bow Bridge, (Totnes, Devon). After braving a treacherous trip down a twisting, turning rat run (a tiny one lane road where if you meet an oncoming car one of you must back up to the nearest turnout spot), I arrived at The Waterman's Arms. A lovely 17th century country inn that has been used for many purposes throughout its history including as a smithy, brewhouse, petrol station, prison, and a haunt for press gangs. It is situated across from Bow Bridge, near the Harbourne River and the head of Bow Creek. When you enter the pub you are greeted by a small two sided bar with beautiful stained glass above it, and there are small rooms on three sides of the bar with beamed ceilings throughout. But for me the highlight is the riverside terrace, offering picturesque views of Bow Creek and the surrounding countryside. The pub is said to be haunted by the spectre of a lady named Emily who wanders the premises clutching a bunch of keys. At a seance the owners learned that Emily is happy that the pub is now being run by women. It is the largest Palmers Brewery (Bridport, Dorset) in the area. I settled down next to the creek with a delicious pint of Dorset Gold and soaked in the relaxing sounds of the rushing water - well needed after my driving experience!
