Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

Halwell, Devon. Located halfway between Totnes and Kingsbridge, this pub traces its roots back to the 14th century, with the current building constructed in 1874 after the previous building burned down. The ancient settlement of Halwell is mentioned in the Doomsday book as Hagewile, derived from the "Holy Well"which is still found in the churchyard of St. Leonard's Church next door to the pub (the well might have been used in Celtic times). The parish contains the earthwork enclosures of the two hillforts of Stanborough Camp (which possibly dates back to the Iron Age and was the meeting place for the Stanborough Hundred) and Halwell Camp. The pub has a central bar area, a dining room, and a large beer garden (and two pub dogs - Sadie and Cara). I had a nice sit with Sadie as I enjoyed an Oak IPA from Otter Brewery (Honiton, near Exeter).
