Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

London, Belgravia. One of my favorite pubs in London. A tiny pub on a side alley that you really have to look for. Established in the early 1800s, it was once a boozer for the stable hands and footmen who worked at the posh houses nearby. The pub enjoyed a resurgence in the 1950s when landlord Ken Cole took the reins. Apparently he and his wife were permanently inebriated and were quite the source of entertainment for patrons. He would sometimes turn away his more well-to-do customers for fear they might prove a soft touch for some of his dodgier regulars (the Great Train Robbery was being planned at the Stat tavern around the corner and there seemed to be plenty of shady characters living in the area!). For the past 40 years it has been run by former Scots guardsmen and actor (he appeared in "Upstairs, Downstairs" and "Doctor Who") Kevin Moran. Known as the "strictest landlord in London", there is no cell phone use allowed in the pub and coats/jackets must be hung on hooks, not on the backs of chairs (among many other unwritten rules!). The floors on both levels are tilted and uneven and the walls and ceiling are covered with photos, hats, pewter mugs, bric-a-brac, and memorabilia (much of it military). The low sunken bar features a grand old beer engine and 150+ year old Chelsea pottery pump handles serving beer from Adnams Brewing in Southwold. Across the alley is a building that Ghislane Maxwell used to live. Back in the day actor Richard Harris was a frequent patron. So quirky, so cool! Highly recommended!
