Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

York. The exterior is a combination of two styles. The right side is a jettied timber framed Tudor style building from around 15th century. The left side is a Victorian brick structure dating from the 19th century. the 15th century house a "coffin drop" in the from room ceiling - a rectangular hole from which the dead would be lowered from above, either because of superstition or narrow stairs. Of course like many other pubs in York it claims to be haunted. During renovations in the 1980s ghosts allegedly terrorized workman, the haunting being believed to be linked to the discovery of a Medieval leather slipper, hence the name. An exorcism was performed in 1984! The interior features lots of brickwork, wooden floors and high Victorian ceilings. Four rooms surround a central corridor and bar, including a snug and library (with a hatch) and a beer garden in the rear
. I sat in the library and enjoyed a Battleaxe Best Bitter from Rudgate Brewery in York.
