Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

Gloucester. This historic inn with a courtyard that stands opposite Gloucester Cathedral dates back to 1216 when it was granted to Peter Des Roche, (the Bishop of Winchester) after the coronation of Henry III, and is reputed to have been an ale house. The name dates from around 1672, named after the Trinity Well, the water source located nearby on Westgate Street. About the same time William III is said to have shown his contempt for James II and the Stuart cause by riding his horse up the stairs leading to a room where a local Jacobite society sympathetic to the deposed king held their meetings. A narrow passageway leads back to the courtyard, and inside the pub are several rooms surrounding the central bar. I was happy to find jail Ale from Dartmoor Brewery, a favorite from my time in Devon.
