Ashprington (Totnes, Devon). This historic country Inn has a history dating back to 1725. Originally part of the Sharpham Estate, it was renamed the Durant Arms around 1922 following a refurbishment by Richard Durant, the Lord of the Manor. It is a popular spot for walkers and cyclists, located on the Dart Valley Trail and South Devon cycle route no. 28.

The village is mentioned in the Doomsday Book with four servants, seven villagers, and eight smallholders, a total of 19 people. In the 2001 census the population was 428. In front of the pub in the roundabout there is a memorial that honors the 17 residents of the village who died during the two world wars. Just down the road is St. David's Church which dates from the 15th century although the font is Norman and the communion chalice is 13th century.

The cozy interior features flagstone floors and wood beamed ceilings. Surrounding the bar are four rooms of various sizes and there is a beer garden in back and picnic tables street side in the front. And there is Tessie, the resident pub dog. I sat out in front and watched village life pass by as I enjoyed a Church Ledge late hopped IPA from Noss beer Works in nearby Ivybridge.
