Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

Ilsington, UK. After a challenging (and somewhat scary!) climb up the Haytor in Dartmoor, I braved driving the tiny (sometimes single lane) country roads to reach The Carpenters Arms. Located next to the 15th century village church, this pub was a welcome sight! With a population of about 800 this is the only pub in the village and is a lovely country inn. I couldn't find much history about the pub but from the old wooden beams in the ceiling and the old flooring tiles it surely has some years on it. It is definitely a "public house" as it is the village meeting place and was packed with locals enjoying food, drink, and conversation. I ordered a Jail Ale (my South Devon go to beer) and sat at a table to enjoy a chat with two local gents (it was a bit chilly to enjoy the lovely little beer garden out front). After settling my nerves a bit it was time to brave the roads and continue on to my next pub.
