Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

Birmingham, UK. Another great old pub located in the Gun Quarter, this one dates from 1729, when it was known as the Bull's Head and the pub owner was also a gun maker (for many years this area was the center of the worlds gun manufacturing industry). In the middle of the 19th century is was common for the "gun gaffer" to pay their employee's wage in the Bulls Head. This of course led to lots of drunken brawls, and as this was a strong Catholic community, the local priest would often be called to sort out the fights. The lovely old U-shaped bar has a large seating area behind it, a smaller area in front, and a snug couch to the side (called "The Bull"). The adornments of the pub are quite eclectic. The previous landlady was quite a collector - teapots, pitchers, jugs, creamers, plates, Staffordshire dogs, and over 1,000 thimbles! And of course quite a lot of old photos and memorabilia . And then there is Allison, the 19 year old resident pub cat. Needless to say this pub has a lot of character! I enjoyed a Grave Digger's Ale from Church End Brewery in nearby Nuneaton. A delicious English Dark Mild Ale with a complex mix of chocolate and roasted malt flavors. Thanks to the bartender Vanessa who was so kind and a wealth of information.
