Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

Duddingston, Edinburgh. Established in 1360 with the core of the current building dating from the 18th century and is believed to be the oldest pub in Scotland. It is named after a ram's head snuff box gifted by King James VI. It is strategically located between the royal residences of Craigmillar Castle and Holyrood Palace and has been visited by Mary Queen of scots and Queen Elizabeth II. Bonnie Prince Charlie also patronized the establishment during his army's month long encampment in Diddingston before the battle of Prestonpans in 1745. It has been a haunt for famous writers Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott, and Robert Louis Stevenson. The inn boasts to oldest surviving skittles alley in Scotland, built around 1880, and has hosted the Trotters Club since 1882.
There is a small room to the left of the entrance and another surrounding the central round bar. Out back is a lovely beer garden where I enjoyed The Sheep Heid Heavy 80/- from Stewart Brewing. Obviously a must stop if you are visiting Edinburgh.
