Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

Riley Green, Hoghton, Lancashire. A traditional stone-built pub located on the old road between Preston and Blackburn near the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, dating back to at least the early 1800s. It was originally a coaching inn that was a meeting place for local hunts, auctions, coroner's inquests, and of course as the drinking hole for locals. There are four rooms (including a dining room) that are served from the central bar. It features low beamed ceilings, brick and wood walls and traditional decor. There is also a beer garden that has views of nearby Hoghton Tower (where King James I is said to have been so impressed with his steak that he knighted it as "Sir Loin"). The beers are from Thwaites brewery (established in 1807) in nearby Blackburn. I enjoyed a pint of Gold, a delicious ale made with Slovenian and Bavarian hops. Thanks to our friends Steve and Audrey for taking us to this lovely old pub.
