Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

Newcastle upon Tyne. Established in 1896 when John Fitzgerald bought his first licensed premises and pioneered the "long bar system" which would revolutionize social drinking in England. He moved to Newcastle in 1878 after completing an apprenticeship in wine and spirit trade and starting his own business. He became a prominent figure in the city, serving as Lord Mayor and being knighted for his contributions. His family continues to run the pub chain today. Located on Grey Street near the Monument Metro Station, it is a large beautiful pub. Of course it features a long bar, with spacious rooms, etched glass, and high ceilings with ornate crown moulding. Tasted two local beers - The 39 Steps Pale Ale from Durham Brewery and Pennine Pale Ale from Allendale Brew Co. in Hexham.
