Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

Merrivale, Dartmoor, Devon. Initially formed from 17th century cottages, possibly including stables, it served as a coaching stop and later a busy inn, particularly when the nearby quarry was active, and in the 1950s it briefly functioned as a petrol station. Inside there is a small bar surrounded by several rooms and in front of the pub is a large picnic table overlooking Dartmoor. We went on a Sunday, which is traditionally roast dinner day at pubs and restaurants throughout England. It consists of roasted meat (beef, lamb and pork are common), roasted potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, and vegetables. I wished we had planned ahead because this was a roast on another level. When we walked in the pub was very smoky due to the roasting of HUGE pieces of meat on the ox grill - the aroma was incredible. Alas we had made other plans so it was an Azores Pale Ale from Sharps Brewery in Cornwall (served from a canvas covered gravity keg!) and a nice dry cider for Bethany that we enjoyed outside surrounded by the glorious landscape.
