Pubs with Bruce
I've been a beer lover all my life and I love to travel. Combining these is the ultimate experience. As I've traveled, I've immersed myself in the history and folklore of the places I've visited. Join me on my beer journeys. Okay, it's not as good as actually being there, but who knows? You may be inspired to enjoy travels (and beers) of your own.

We spent over a week in the village of Rainhill (population approximately 11,000). I have shared a few posts of pubs on the outskirts of the village, but there are only two traditional pubs in the centre area. This pub is located next to the railway station. It was built in 1870 by the Joseph Jones Brewery (also serving beer brewed by Knotty Ash Ales), offering rooms to train commuters and then refurbished in 1927 when acquired by Higsons brewery (Liverpool). The notorious murderer Frederick Deeming, alias Albert Williams, stayed here in 1891.
A beautiful classic brick exterior. The interior is classic 1920s, with lots of dark wood and patterned flooring. Two nice outdoor seating areas. I enjoyed a Bad to the Bone bitter from Bank Top brewing (Bolton) - perfect for a sunny day.
