York. Originally a private house, over the years it was Boy's Home and the Gas Works Social Club. It became a pub in 1984. It is named after a famous racehorse and the walls are covered with photos, information boards, and memorabilia commemorating him. He was British Horse of the Year in 1971 and 1972. Between June 1970 and October 1972 he won 17 out of 18 races, and he is rated the best racehorses trained in Britain in the 20th century.

The pub has a large open plan lounge bar and has a small room off to the side with darts and a pool table. It is a Samuel Smith's pub which unfortunately means I was not allowed to take any photos. It is a shame because there is beautiful red wood everywhere you turn. I stood at the bar with a Samuel Smith's Best Bitter and had a great conversation with the landlady/bartender and 2 of the regulars, gathering a lot of helpful information for my coming days of pub crawls in York.

It’s too bad photos are not permitted. You did get valuable information though

through interfacing with the locals.
